WRITING

Melissa writes literary and lyrical middle-grade novels, bold and humorous picture books, and short stories on a MacBook, with a cat named Bird and dog named George at her feet and a coffee mug on her desk. She earned a degree in English, is a member of SCBWI, and belongs to two writing critique groups. Melissa is also a Pitch Wars alum and was accepted to the juried workshop of the Aspen Institute’s Summer Words writers conference and Highlights Whole Novel Workshop.

This image is an aesthetic for Melissa’s gothic, middle-grade manuscript ISLAND OF PAPER HEARTS, a Pitch Wars manuscript.

When not writing, Melissa can be found hiking, reading, and drawing silly illustrations. She spends her time between Maryland and Vermont, where she is currently fixing up a 19th-century carriage house.
